The Structure of Village Poultry in Diyarbakır Province

- This study was carried out to investigate the structure of village poultry in Diyarbakır province and to suggest more economical and more profitable production by determining the problems of producers. In the study, the data obtained from face-to-face questionnaires were analyzed with the village poultry breeders in selected 47 villages in 8 districts by simple random sampling method in between 2017-2018. According to result of study, the average monthly income of the breeders were 663.52 TL and the average number of individuals living in the family was 11.8. It was determined that the number of birds were 82 in poultry houses. The rate of village poultry breeders for economic reasons was 5.7%. The number of birds among the districts were significantly different. It was observed that all the chicken houses were infected by some diseases and the birds were vaccinated to prevent and fight them. The reasons for giving up poultry breeding (3%) were diseases. The breeders who reported diseases, supporting, feed cost and marketing as problems were 61, 23, 11 and 5%, respectively. As a result, dynamic and educated people who wants to breed poultry due to the economic profit have to be encouraged and this will accelerate the development of the poultry. In particular, developing strategies and policies are necessary to solve the problems of breeders in diseases, support and incentives, feed cost and marketing.
