- Chick quality is rather important in poultry industry. Performance values of high quality chicks are higher during production stage. Genetic structure of the breeding flock, rearing systems, flock management, nutrition, hatching conditions and diseases all affect the chick quality. Various methods were developed with the aim of measuring the chick quality. Among these methods are visual evaluation, body weight, body mass without yolk (BMWY), chick length, product ratio, tona score and pasgar score. Hatching machine manufacturers have developed novel methods with the aim of determining egg weight losses and shell temperature. With these systems it is aimed to decrease the negative effects arised from hatcheries on chick quality. Keywords : Chick quality, hatchery, pasgar score, tona score
