Effect of Dried Grape Pomace in Diet on the Performance, Carcass and Internal Organ Characteristics in Japanese Quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica
2 Erciyes Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Hayvan Besleme ve Beslenme Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı- Kayseri - In this study, the effects of dried grape pomace supplementation to the japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) diets on performance, carcass and characteristics of internal organs (duodenum, jejunum and caecum length and liver, kidney and gizzard weight and ratio) were investigated. A total of 375, 5-day-old Japanese quails were divided into 5 treatment groups with 5 replication based on their live weight of quails. Groups were; in the diets, 0 (control) 1, 2, 4 and 6 % dried grape pomace contained. All of the diets were isonitrogenic and isocaloric and all diets 1g/kg Kavimix Safizyme GP 60® contained. Individual body weights (BW) were measured at 5, 19 and 33 d of age. Also, feed intake (FI) based on group were determined at 19 and 33 d of age. Body weight gain (BWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were calculated from these data. At the end of the experiment the quails were slaughtered and their length of the intestine (duodenum, jejunum and caecum), weights of some internal organs (liver, kidney and gizzard) and their rates and carcass weight (hot and cold) and yield were determined. In the study, there were no significant differences among the groups in terms of BW, BWG, FI, FCR and carcass yield (p>0.05). Carcass and internal organ weights and ratios were not affected by the treatments (p> 0.05). It was determined that quails fed 2% grape pomace group jejunum length was lower than control (0%), 4 and 6% grape pomace groups (p<0.05), and cecal length of 4 and 6% groups were significantly lower than control and 1% grape pomace groups (p<0.001). As a result, it is determined that up to 6% addition of dried grape pomace in quail diets can be used without a negative effect on performance and carcass and internal organ traits of quails.
