Chicken Meat Consumption Behaviours of Consumers Living in Central District of Gaziantep

The aim of this study is to determine the condition of chicken meat consumption and the factors affecting consumption of chicken in central district of Gaziantep. The main material of the study is constituted the data obtained from the face-to-face survey conducted with 270 consumers determined by the method of proportional sampling of the central district of Gaziantep province. Descriptive statistics, F test and chi-square analysis were used to analyse the data. According to the research findings, it was determined that the percentage of the consumers consuming chicken meat is 93.36% and 18.04 kg of chicken meat were consumed per person per year. In addition, the share of chicken meat expenditure in the monthly food expenditure is 9.66%. It is found that 84.19% of the consumers buy chicken meat from supermarkets and 56.32% of the consumers prefer buying branded products. Moreover, it is determined that consumers give importance to expiry date, healthy and quality respectively when buying chicken meat.
